Disabled Man Death

Two people charged after a disabled man in Winnipeg was found gravely injured have pleaded guilty to theft and will not have to face more serious charges of aggravated assault. Harvey Sanderson was a 27-year-old man who was wheelchair-bound due to a brittle bone disease. He died in hospital last August after being found out of his chair and critically injured in his downtown apartment. Doctors at first thought he the victim of a beating, but eventually they could not come to consensus. On Friday, Bobbi Melissa McKay and John Raven Ward pleaded guilty to theft under $5,000 dollars for taking a change purse and a cell phone from Sanderson. The doctor who performed the autopsy says the man''s injuries could have been due to a fall. It was also found that Sanderson was highly intoxicated by alcohol when he was hurt. The judge on the case sentenced McKay and Ward to time already served in custody, three months, as the case proceeded.
