Warming Huts

Five new highly original warming huts are now under construction at The Forks. Once completed they will grace the River Trail along the Assiniboine River. Internationally renowned architect Frank Gehry was invited to construct one of the huts. A competition was announced in September to select three international architects. Winners hail from Czech Republic, Norway and New York City. The fifth hut is being built by the winner of a student competition at the University of Manitoba. Each of the huts, from the Gehry piece to the student project, is budgeted at $20,000, and that includes materials, labour and travel.
