Costa Concordia Offers Survivors 14K
The company that owns the sunken Costa Concordia is offering survivors more than 14 thousand dollars each. The announcement came this morning after the company negotiated with consumer groups. This comes from the company''s attempt to limit the legal fallout left by the crash. Each passenger would receive the 14 thousand in addition to their initial cruise cost. A consumer group in the U.S. is collecting names for a class action suit that is requesting 125 thousand for each passenger. 16 bodies have been found following the cruise ship''s chaotic evacuation, with more than 16 left missing. Captain Francesco Schettino was operating the ship when it ran aground on the Tuscan coast. Schettino is facing charges of manslaughter and abandoning a ship before passengers were evacuated.
