Man Rearrested

Police in Winnipeg have rearrested a man who escaped custody while being treated at the Health Sciences Centre. Stephane Martin Bissonnette, 29, was apparently being watched by guards from the Provincial Remand Centre when he escaped at about 9 p.m. on Sunday. Patrolling officers spotted him walking on Thursday afternoon near Balmoral Street and Cumberland Avenue and took him into custody. While he was on the lam, Bissonnette allegedly robbed two banks both within about an hour on Jan. 26. In addition to his original robbery and firearms charges, Bissonnette has been charged with additional robbery offences, as well as numerous break and enter offences and being unlawfully at large.
