Neepawa CFIA Charges
A Neepawa Vet, as well as several livestock operators in the area are facing a number of charges under the Health of Animals Act. The investigation by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, which lasted over two years, alleges that possibly up to hundreds of cattle were intentionally and illegally exported from Canada into the United States between February 2008 and August 2009. Search Warrant Documents show that the CFIA investigation began in early 2009 after 42 cattle were refused entry into the United States. The CFIA has confirmed that Doctor Fawcett George Taylor of Neepawa has been charged with refusing or neglecting to preform a duty imposed on him, and Neepawa area Mowat Lovestock and D-A-M Cattle Buyers are also charged with exporting a number of cattle that did not meet the import requirements of the United States. Three Brandon Area companies were also charged. None of the charges have been proven in court, and all are considered innocent until proven guilty. The next court date is scheduled for March sixth.
