Holiday Business Hours

With July 1st falling on a Sunday this year, there are some important holiday business hours rules that establishments, and customers, need to be aware of. Under federal law, employers must observe Monday, July 2nd, as a general holiday. Most retail businesses must close for Monday, with some exceptions, such as restaurants, gas stations, Laundromats, and retail outlets that regularly operate with four or less people. However, July 1st – Canada Day itself – is NOT considered a holiday, and retailers may be open the same hours as any other Sunday.
